TMC Festival Photo Walk With Cat Schick 2014
Cat Schick has been leading photo walking tours in Calgary since 2009. She sees it as a collaborative performance - the participants share information about their experiences/perceptions about living in this city and exchange tips on photography. Akin the concept of Jane's Walks, the tour is a way to connect people to their environment and each other, using art and walking to facilitate discovery through urban exploration and encourage discussion about urban issues (history, urban planning, social structures, tourism, homelessness, etc.).
Cat has led 3 photo walks in the past 3 TMC Festivals: ones taking place in the Downtown, Beltline, and East Village districts. These districts were chosen because they are areas where shelters/agencies are located and the homeless reside, and the walks were a good opportunity to focus the dialogue on issues particular to TMC's clients/participants.
